D.I.Y. Beatles Jewellery Box!

A few years ago I bought a set of drawers from IKEA. They were plain birch colour and extremely ugly, however they were the perfect size.

I just searched their website and it appears they don't sell them anymore, this is the closest I could find and it's on the GB site.

http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/20221864/

This set is 2x2, the one I bought was 2x3
When I bought the set of 6 drawers, I think it was around $30.

Anyway, to fix the issue of it's ugliness, I did some painting.

This is how it ended up:

I'm pretty happy with how they turned out, especially since I was using very old acrylic paint.

I don't have any progress pictures as I did this quite a while ago.

Method:

Paint the backgrounds!

Now paint the foregrounds!

I wish I had pictures detailing how I did this but I don't. I guess it's pretty self explanatory!

William Ricketts Sanctuary

A few months ago my cousin and I went to William Ricketts Sanctuary in Mount Dandenong.

It was absolutely beautiful.

Here are my favourite pictures that my cousin took.

This is a sculpture William made of himself. He is protecting two Ringtail Possums and his body is fused with a Kangaroo.

He believed nature, humans and animals were all one.

Another sculpture of William with some Aboriginal children. I love the moss that has grown over it, it almost proves his idea that we are all one.

Absolutely stunning.

He believed that humans must care for nature as it is essential for life.

It is awful to see that his strong notions about the environment are continuously being lost.itjantjatjara

A series of unfortunate events.

This is a story I love to tell. it happened about 2 months ago, over the span of a week.

Me and my mates were at a 21st, and I didn't have any pockets, nor a bag, to hold my things. So Jordan was carrying my phone in his pocket.

Through no fault of his own, it was purely unlucky, my Nexus fell out of his pocket and landed smack on the ground.

Here's the damage.

Unfortunately,  the touch sensors are actually a part of the glass, so broken glass = broken sensors.

This rendered my phone unusable. Which is a shame because I absolutely LOVED that phone. I believe in the next model, the Nexus 5, they fixed this problem so that broken glass \ne broken sensors.

Jordan is saving up to get it fixed :)

Luckily I had an old iPhone 4 that I could use in the meantime.

2 days after the death of my Nexus, I was helping Jordan move from his dads to his mums house.
My car was FULL as we were doing it all in one trip. I had my iPad lying on the front seat and when Jordan came to sit down, he put it in his foot space on top of a whole lot of bags. He went to fix his shoe before entering the car when something fell out of the car. It was my iPad.

Here's the damage.
As you can see the cracks cover the entire thing.

This is the worst part (I have taped over a few parts to stop the shards of glass falling out or cutting me).

I wasn't even mad, in fact I thought it was hilarious. Jordan felt terrible though. I really didn't care because it still works fine (as fine as an 2 year old iPad can work).

Fast forward to 3 days later. Jordan and I were in the kitchen cooking or something and he moved a bag of chips that were sitting on the counter.

Wouldn't you believe, my phone fell from under the chips onto the hardwood floor. I don't even understand how it happened, but I certainly don't blame Jordan. It was a freak accident and it's not like he's clumsy.

Here's the damage.

It's a bit difficult to see as I have taped over the entire back. But you can see the lines around the apple in the middle.
Once again, it didn't affect the performance of the phone (it still works just as horribly as it did before)

I am very excited to get my Nexus working again, the iPhone has come close to bringing me to tears on far to many occasions!

Meet Freddie Mercury

In this picture Freddie was just 5 months old. He had a lot of pin feathers on his head which made him a little uncomfortable. After his first molt he was left with just a few which I hope will fall out soon.

Here he is now at 8 months.

You can see his iris has changed from black to dark grey, over the next few months it will turn to light grey.
I adopted him from a breeder in Hastings. He was hand reared which made it very easy for us to become friends.

He follows me around like I'm his mother :)
